Here in Seattle and Bellingham, WA, we have the RE Store - a great place to buy reclaimed construction materials. They posted two, cool articles about how folks used items from their store.

Check out this greenhouse-like potting shed made from reclaimed windows.

And this is just a really unique business that made a fun, conversation-piece table: Man Pies.

(Paul, they make pies--man pies, even!!  )

ReStores are operated by Habitat for Humanity, a worthwhile charitable organization.
Besides used materials, they often have new materials (major retailers often donate discontinued models, etc).

I know a guy who built a greenhouse with 4 sets of sliding glass doors he bought for about the price of one at the big box store.

They have outlets in 48 states, and 9 provinces:

Oh cool, good to know there are lots more of them! Excellent links, John.

ReStores also offer excellent classes and workshops, recycled or upcycled art events and community meeting space.

I know there's a really cool re-use store in/near Portland (Oregon) that Ernie and Erica Wisener frequent, and there's the Home Resource Center in Missoula, MT and even King County here in WA state has an online materials swap.

It's encouraging to see how so many (most?) communities have either stores, freecycle lists, or municipal resources for re-use materials these days. I like seeing more examples of really appealing stuff being made out of it, too.

Jocelyn, are you where the Man Pies are??

I have been looking at them on line - from the opposite coast.  I would love to get one of thier recipes.  I can't figure out how they fill thier pastry and is it a thick crust.

Those things look so good it would almost be worth a two week vacation just to drive across the country to try one.

I'm over an hour south of the Man Pies, but just might have to drive up there to try their Gluten Free pies.  If I do, I'll take pics and post them in the cooking and food preservation forum.
