Oak Leaves on Lawn

I enjoyed reading your website and want to switch to organic lawn care.

We have 2 oak trees and our neighbors have some as well.  Many of the leaves end up in our yard.  My father (aka Perfect Lawn Man-not organic) informed me my husband's practice of using the mower's mulching blade on the leaves and leaving them in the yard is bad for the grass.  What are your thoughts on this?

I suppose he thinks that if there are too many leaves, mulching them and leaving the fragments on the lawn might create a "thatch" effect.
 
On the other hand, I think that mulchers were created because adding organic stuff like leaves to lawns is like adding fertilizer.

Your dad is a naysayer poopy-pants!

If the mulch gets too deep (more than an inch) it can smother the grass.  But an inch or less is a HUGE help! 

Actually, my Dad thought the acidic oak leaves were bad for the grass.  I will tell him otherwise.  My husband and I are going to switch to organic lawn care and see whose lawn looks better.
