Biography
Made with Love is an eco artisan food company, farm stay guest house and permaculture food forest IN the city of Kamloops BC. We own and preserve half an acre of the oldest farmland in our desert city which backs onto wildlife wetlands, off the Thompson River. Started by Colin and Alexandra Proctor in 1999, Made with Love is a social enterprise, a sustainable green business and a collaborative community venture. Our goal and motto is happy healthy people on a happy healthy planet and we function as a circle of beings, NOT a pyramid. Each collaborative visitor, guest or member participates in our beautiful shared life and contributes as they wish each day, engaging in the active meditation "work is love made visible." [Kahlil Gibran - The Prophet]. All members are responsible for a minimum donation of $10/day towards ethical omnivorous groceries. We share beautiful culinary abundance as farm table meals every morning and evening. Those who choose to live here contribute financially or energetically as they wish, but all participants are actively engaged in building healthy sustainable community, together.

Goldenrod tea, made from dried leaves and flower buds of Solidago canadiensis is amazing. Taste more like a black tea than any herbal tea i have yet tasted. I am thrilled to find it. We will be harvesting the young growth as a veggie next spring too - especially since I let so much of it go to seed in the food forest! Harvest a few times a season and when just starting to bud/flower because open flowers turn to fluff as the dry. New flowers will form at each of the leaf nodes behind where you cut.

Ooooo... and I would love to hear if any others have noticed which plants like to grow with hazels. Our understory has remained virtuallu empty beneath them for years... even the apple mint we transplanted didn't take. I have heard of a hazel orchard having great success with truffles beneath them.... but would love to hear of any other edible successes in the food forest model for beneath hazels.

I noticed fever few popped up in our food forest, unannounced the first season I suffered from migraines. I find it amazing that the food forest almost always knows what we need medicinally. Every time a new unknown volunteer arrives, I research to figure out what it is, and invariably notice its medicinal properties are totally aligned with something one of us really needs more of. As though all life is interconnected...

Though personally the only medicinal plants that really work wonders on my migraines have been linden flower (tilia) tincture and cannabis oil drops.  A few drops of either under the tongue are great nervous system relief.
