Hello Permie People!

We’re a couple looking for an opportunity with one of you lovely folks. We stumbled onto permaculture in Summer 2017 and since then everything has started falling into place! We’ve been volunteering and learning as much as possible on our own, but we’d love to find somewhere to stay long term and make a real impact. We have been travelling on/off for a few years and so have a varied work history (please see below) where we’ve have gained many skills along the way. We are currently saving to buy some land of our own, so ideally we’re looking for a place where we can work full time, or volunteer but be within reach of a part-time job. We enjoy having a variety of work, and would be particularly interesting in helping with; gardening, food forest preparation/planting, animal care, green building and food processing/preservation. We’re excited by the possibilities of industrial hemp so would be interested to talk to anyone growing or processing it, using hempcrete, etc. We are hard workers who are happy to work independently, but would like to be around people who enjoy sharing their knowledge.

A little more about us;

We volunteered on a couple of organic/biodynamic/permaculture sites in Summer 2018 in the Netherlands and Germany, primarily helping with sowing, irrigation and harvest but many other tasks besides. Before this, we managed a 34-bed backpackers hostel in New Zealand for 7 months covering all areas of operation, including arranging work for our long-term guests. We enjoy being around the travelling community and the positive atmosphere of possibility that comes with them. We’ve also held various positions on industrial farms, where we first realised how rewarding it is to work outside with the earth and to help feed people. We’re peaceful people who enjoy yoga, cooking (mostly vegetarian), and eating!

32, Canadian with right to work through Gemma
Previously managed an organic livestock farm in Canada for nearly a year caring for cows, pigs, goats and chickens. Bachelor's degree in history, and an interest in traditional agricultural methods. Ran his own irrigation and lighting business and is proficient with many power and manual tools.

27, British/Irish
Volunteered at an eco-hostel in the Netherlands for 4 months, helping with many projects including natural fence building, accommodation maintenance, harvest preservation and herb garden planting. Mainly acting as a host and breakfast cook though, as well as looking after the chickens and rabbits. Especially interested in perennial vegetables, natural pools, and Buddhist philosophy.

Our start date is flexible, we could make it to most places for the end of February. We're very happy to answer any questions, set up a video chat and/or provide references/CVs if needed, just let us know. We understand there are countless aspects to running a successful project and would like to help out however we can, please put us to good use!

Thanks for reading, we look forward to hearing from you,

Gemma and Mark
