JRPC Celebrates 25 years

Contact:  Betsy Mulligan-Dague, 543-3955 or peace@jrpc.org

The Jeannette Rankin Peace Center's annual Peace Party is Sunday, September 18 from 4:30 to 8 pm in Caras Park.  This year we celebrate our 25th anniversary with the theme,”Homegrown Community". Our catered dinner will be reminiscent of the abundant potlucks of our history and will feature the bounty of our local Montana farms prepared and served by Homestead Organics.

This year’s entertainment will feature the Polson band, Gladys Friday as well as our very own Mt Women’s Chorus and Gay Men’s Chorus.

Auctioneers are Jim Parker of Westridge Creative, KD Dickinson of Portico Realty and our very own Mayor John Engen.  Among our auction items, we'll be featuring locally handmade items and services, and even giving attendees the option of contributing by bringing a potluck dessert to share. And we can't forget to mention our signature live auction of meals prepared lovingly by some of the city's finest cooks.

Our raffle includes some of our past favorites, like a week's stay at Crestwood Resort in Whitefish, a half-day float with 10,000 Waves and more!  Raffle tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10, and are on sale now at the Jeannette Rankin Peace Center.  You do not have to be present to win and raffle tickets are a great way to support the Center if you can’t come to the party!  You could win one of these

$50 Gift Certificate to Finn & Porter Restaurant
A week at Crestwood Resort in Whitefish
1/2 day float with 10,000 Waves
A One hour Biodynamic Cranial Sacral Therapy offered by Rose Stoudt of A Balanced Body
    A Putomayo music sampler basket
An assortment of Fair Trade Chocolate
And more are coming in each day!

Come celebrate being part of this great community with us. Please call 543-3955 if you’d like to donate items or volunteer!  Tickets are still a great bargain at $20/individual, $35/couple or $45/family for JRPC members and $5 more for non-members.  You can also purchase a table of 10 for just $200 and have your own special celebration, with some special treatment.  Ticket and donation forms are available on our website at www.jrpc.org.  Or stop by the Center at 519 S. Higgins on the Hip Strip.  For more information, call us at 543-3955.

25 years ago, the Jeannette Rankin Peace Center began in the basement of the University Congregational Church as a small group of Missoulians gathered to make a place to dialogue and reflect on peacemaking.  They moved into their current location in 1994 and just this year paid the mortgage off to own the location, clearing the way for a permanent place for peace in Missoula.  The public is invited to share their memories from 25 years of peacemaking by emailing them to peace@jrpc.org.
