trying to save my farm

Hi there. I have a tiny farm (2 ac) in West Virginia. I've been on the edge of foreclosure for a year — the usual reasons, lack of work, etc.

I've investigated intentional communities and that's my long-term plan, but until and if I'm put out on the street, I want to keep this going.

I have two rooms I can rent out in my house, great land to grow on, high tensile and board fencing for goats/sheep, and the land is UNRESTRICTED. I'd like to have bees, sheep, a cow, whatever.

The house is wood heated and has a lot of charm; the setting is beautiful. Is anyone here interested in a shared housing situation? I'm attaching a flyer I'm using to try to sell the house, but I'll tell you, selling is not my real goal. I want to stay here.

have you tried posting on other web site - like the IC.org, co-housing, heck even Craigslist?

Holy crap only 140k?  You need to advertise this in the new york craigslist, especially the "Fairfield County" sub-section, if you really want to sell it.  It looks beautiful, and I hope that everything works out for you on it.

I know! of course, it's a big loss compared to what I have in it ... it's a great bug-out and grow your own food type of place, I just can't afford the mortgage without a job, and in rural areas, there aren't too many of them. I'll tell my realtor to try posting in the NY craigslists. Thanks!

Thanks!!! Great minds thinking alike, I actually planted some this spring. They didn't do so well, only one vine survived, but I'm hoping (hopping) for better luck next year, if I'm still here. Yes, great idea!

have u checked out any of the 'fed' programs to delay payments, reduce principal, etc?  it's filled with bureacratic mazes, but may buy you some time...

Alas, yes. They seem to be smoke and mirrors as far as I can see. I've made hundreds of calls...basically, if you don't have a job, you don't qualify for anything, and they won't even talk to you.

I'm investigating some offbeat ideas, like trying to donate my equity to a land trust. They would have to pay off the mortgage, but it's not that much, 80k. It may take too long to happen. But I'm thinking tiny working demonstration farm, foundation offices, gallery, something like that. I'm still trying to find a job and get stabilized.

AND I'm starting a new website sourcing "made in America". It's not completed yet, but check it out! At some point it's going to generate a bit of ad revenue, maybe not enough to be a living, but enough to supplement whatever else I'm doing. Just wish I had thought of it 6 months ago

hello! i know this is an old old thread and i have no idea how i found it but i wanted to respond to see how things have progressed for you? did you save your farm? are you still looking for a buyer and/or collaborator?
