If they're small radishes, you might be able to get away with four inches in beds. In the Squarefoot Gardening book, Mel Bartholomew settled on four inches for early maturing radishes. If they're early radishes, the roots should be ready in only one month. I haven't had any success growing them during the warmer part of Summer here in Southwest Ohio though. It gets over 87°F regularly from late June to early September here.
