I hope someone can help! My kids and I have moved into a new home in San Diego and have been searching for hours to identify this tree. Here is a little info we do know:

1. Southern California
2. Palmate with 5 leaflets
3. Light gray trunk with small bumps
4. No known fruits

The leaves are much larger on those but the trunks are similar. This tree does not bear fruit. Here are a few more pictures.

I'm not convinced that your tree doesn't bear fruit. If perhaps "The tree has a habit of molting a few times per year and most of the palmate leaves will drop suddenly leaving the tree nearly bare of foliage.  That is normal for this tree.  New growth is a coppery-red color"[1] then we would have another clue. Certainly it looks like that might happen anyday.
