I'm in the Pacific Northwest, and it's getting pretty cold. If I start the mushrooms now (is that possible since it's cold), will they start growing, or will it be awhile? I heard it's like 6 months or something before they start, but that could be wrong. . . .

What species are you trying to grow, with what method and in what climate zone? In general, mid-November is not normally a good time for starting outdoor projects, although there are exceptions. In general, late winter to mid spring is the best time to start most outdoor mushroom projects in the Pacific Northwest.

to add to this, is it possible that a log or stump that is half buried would give you the ability to grow whatever mushroom as it would give the mycellium an oppurtunity to retreat deep into the buried wood when it is cold? and then when warm the fungi could fruit on the upper, exposed area of the log?

if you are good, then when you die, you will get seasons 2-10 of firefly - tiny ad
