New to the forums and Permaculture too!

Hello all!

I am new to the permaculture world (although I knew it by other names) and I just wanted to say hello to everyone and get to know people on here.

Currently I do not live the lifestyle but I want to incorporate techniques and features of it into my life when I finish school (maybe even before if I can find a good piece of land for a cheap price). 
I don't know if I could live totally self sufficient without all modern convenience and methods but I want to do so as much as reasonably possible.

The area I want to eventually live in is the Olympic Peninsula in WA State (Port Angeles to be Specific) and so my questions, and expected answers, will be geared towards that area. 

If there are any permaculture people on the Peninsula that I could connect with specifically that would be much appreciated, so I can build some good relationships (community is important especially when living in this way).

Anyways, I look forward to sharing my ideas and learning a whole bunch from you all.

Welcome, I am new too...both to the forum and permaculture.  My husband and I come from several generations of mono-culture so it will be nice to converse with people who are not freaked out by the concepts and run away.

I agree that it is nice to be able to share ideas with people who think outside of the box.  I have always been in favor of simple living and my wife thinks that being a good steward of the earth is important so we are looking for ways to become more self reliant.
We don't think all of modern tech and society is bad we just think that there are ways to live much simpler and much better than being a total consumer or having that mindset.  Plus the idea of being self sufficient and getting away from utility bills etc. is really nice too.  I look forward to learning and sharing with you and your husband.

I am getting my prerequisites out of the way for Nursing School so I can be an RN.  I already have a BA and it has gotten me no where so far so I am switching tactics and learning a trade.

LOL!  I love people who think outside of the box...we never would have had any awesome inventions if everyone kept thinking the same way...and my boys LOVE to read about awesome inventions.  Their favorite magazine is MAKE magazine...my hubby got them hooked.  All I ask is when they make something that it does not LOOK like it came from the junk yard.  I do want to have at least somewhat of a presentable home.

I completely agree with your wife on good stewardship, and agree with you on no utility bills if at all possible!

Yay for becoming an RN!  We need more good people in that field.

Yes, please do! When do you think you'll be here?

I am hoping to move to the area this coming September but at the latest September 2013.
(All depends if Peninsula College accepts me for the nursing program this coming year).

After that it will be a couple years before I am able to get started with my Perma-property but I plan to be experimenting with some things before I find some land.
