Hey Permies, I'm looking for cane to use for blowgun and spears. Any suggestions on how to best find cane stands and approach the landowners for permission to collect?

when I want manure or say wool, I'd drive around and find lifestock. Then I'd stop by the nearest house and explain up front what I am after, manure, and I'd ask if those lifestock belonged to the homeowner, if not who do I ask?  Of course, look out for guard dogs, or in your case gators, but most of the time, I'd get a positive response.

Huxley, I think just asking around will get you there.  River cane here is so prolific owners are sometimes happy to have someone cut it.  One problem though, is getting the older canes not the first year growth as it does not cure out hard.

I don't think I would mention 'blowguns or spears' to a stranger ...it has so many uses one could easily come up with a non weapon use as a reason for needing cane, like garden stakes and trellises or flutes.
