We are slowly but surely making headway on our house build.  It has taken a lot of perseverance through wet, cold, mud, hot, mud, and more mud thanks to above average rainfall.  This weekend I'll be putting concrete block on the last 2 piers, then filling the 18 perimeter piers with concrete and anchor bolts for the timbers.  I average 60 hour weeks and work every other weekend, so it has been a challenge to get work done.  We have to stay focused and talk a lot to keep from getting discouraged at times.  Most of our relatives and co-workers think we are out of our minds for building our own place instead of paying out a boat load of money to have someone else do it quicker.  We are good with doing it our way so we end up with a house and NO MORTGAGE.

There is a difference between good debt and bad debt.
A small manageable mortgage that gave you a big leg up may be worth thinking about.
IE getting the roof up now
