Rocket (m)Ass Heater?

So I have a few questions about Rocket Mass Heaters...

I'm building a cabin up north and was thinking of using a RMH for the outhouse, with the vent pipe running through a green house so I can have fresh greens during the winter.

composting toilet + RMH + green house, yay or nay?



also, can you cook on a RMH? I seen pics with tea kettles atop the barrel... how about a pot of spaghetti?

yep you can put it in the outhouse; I would locate the outhouse about 50 yards from the cabin just in case that last batch of beans catches you wrong.

yes you can cook on an RMH we put a tea pot on cause its dry and we usually cook in a pressure cooker that makes stuff quickly or we simmer stews that cook slow and remove the pot before pictures cause we have just eaten the contents.
the stove gets the kettle boiling and will do the same to the stew pot. I also like to make chocolate ganosh on the rocket because its a nice gentle heat; in fact I pretty much use the stove for any delicate sauces i make. It works pretty darn well.

I suppose i would say dont use the RMH in the outhouse for cooking it could be a rather crappy meal.

Rather than an outhouse, you may want to look into humanure composting. Check out The Humanure Handbook (http://humanurehandbook.com/). Then you can put the RMH in the house, and not have another building to heat.

The cabin will be small. And I've always wanted to get away from that weird feeling of knowing your bathroom (toilet) is in the vicinity of your kitchen. I also like the nostalgic feel of the outhouse. Ill be in the iron range of MN (about an hour from Canada) so it'd be nice to have a warm pipe running through the green house during the winter. I'm also knitting mittens for my plants, each leaf gets a mini-snuggie.

I have purchased a RMH book (Ianto Evans and Leslie Jackson) and have watched plenty of youtube vids. When the time is right I should be ready to build, fail, rebuild, and succeed(!).

Thanks for the reply. People can keep suggesting ideas if they please. I've purchased 80 acres in the middle of a state forest. I plan on setting up an organic hobby farm that uses aspects of biodynamics. The secondary plan is to tame a moose so I can ride him around my property for nothing but sheer joy. The moose is up on me so far... fifteen years ago I moo'd, he entered the water and started swimming toward me, I paddled as fast as I could the other direction... 0-1.

Frolf, I completely understand wanting to keep the inputs (food) away from the outputs (excrement)! Keep in mind that typical outhouses have a tendency to pollute ground water. You can still separate your kitchen from bathroom, and recycle/compost your manure; put the humanue toilet in the outhouse.
