Welcome, John Moody. I think elderberries are the most amazing medicinal plant and have used my own berries to make syrups and tinctures. What do you believe is the best method of getting the most potency from elderberries? I'm looking forward to reading your book. Thank you
I would like to know the most potent preparation too. Also, are there any preparations which you find decrease the potency. And since elderberry is useful for several ailments, are there certain preparations recommended for particular situations?
Harvest elderberries from properly amended, properly irrigated soil in the morning right after the sun dries the dew on the plants.
Then, I would personally steam juice the berries in one of those nice steam juicers that now are available and affordable. I would freeze the juice, but if space is an issue, probably make a shelf stable elderberry syrup using date syrup as the sweetener and malic acid or lemons to lower the pH.
Looking forward to reading the book for sure. Ive been asked plenty of times where to get elderberry plants or the berries themselves. Now there is a new resource out, I'll start by getting the book ( hopefully winning it ) and start some jam or something. That is probably the best way for me to make it potent and shelf stable. And it tastes great that way !
