As a fan of a lot of his music, and after youtube recommended a fantastic cover of one of my favourite songs from him this morning, I had to look it up.  I already knew he was vintner out in AZ, but I had to google if he was into permaculture.
There wasn't much, but this quote did pop up.

James “Maynard” Keenan
– voice, text, melody of the band “Tool” had his vineyard designed by Andrew Millison. In Andrew’s words:
“I worked for Maynard James Keenan building his orchard and vineyard for 2.5 years. He didn’t care about Permaculture specifically, but is a very intelligent person who understood a good idea when he heard it. Jerome, Arizona is a very dry area, and many Permaculture concepts about water catchment, storage and conservation made a ton of sense to Maynard. The vineyard is on a SE facing slope, and the orchard a North facing slope. The solar aspect and microclimate development were enhanced by the extreme terracing we built, and that all made perfect sense to Maynard. He’s a guy who can understand patterns.”

I like him even more now.

This music video, of which he did not make the actual video (he just made the music), is a really hard look at man.  It's dark, and it's brutally honest.  Watching it on mute is still worth the ten minutes.  The song matches the video perfectly, though.

and here's the video youtube keeps recommending to me of the same song but it's acoustic, and much more mellow.  Fantastic!!!

I even opened both, played the audio of the cover band, and watched the video of tool's.  It matches almost perfectly, but the song ends 2 minutes sooner than the video.

Too much free time..........

:)

Edit

Here are the lyrics.

Angels on the sideline
Puzzled and amused
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they're all confused
Don't these talking monkeys know that Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly old monkeys
Where there's one you're bound to divide it
Right in two
Angels on the sideline
Baffled and confused
Father blessed them all with reason
And this is what they choose
Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over pieces of the ground
Silly monkeys give them thumbs
They forge a blade, and where there's one they're bound to divide it
Right in two
Right in two
Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over pieces of the ground
Silly monkeys give them thumbs, they make a club
And beat their brother down
How they survive so misguided is a mystery
Repugnant is a Creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here
Cut and divide it all right in two
Cut and divide it all right in two
Cut and divide it all right in two
Cut and divide it all right in two
Fight over the clouds, over wind, over sky and
Fight over life, over blood, over air and light
Over love, over sun, over another
Fight for the time, for the one, for the rise and
Angels on the sideline again
Been so long with patience and reason
Angels on the sideline again
Wondering when this tug of war will end
Cut and divide it all right in two
Cut and divide it all right in two
Cut and divide it all right in two
Right in two
Right in two
