I just went through an issue with the site. I tried to get on last night and my saved login didn't work, so I got a temp one Then I was directed to my moosages, I had an issue with a post. Fine, except there was nothing there I could see? No links to the post, no way to get to it, no way to edit anything, no way to do anything other than stare at this message that said I had to fix the problem before I could use the site.

I tried sending a mossage to an admin I'd talked to before. As far as I know that didn't work, I got a date/time stamp in response.

I wrote Paul a letter.

I reported the message. I had no problem with the message except it had locked me out and there was no access to whatever the problem was to fix it.

I decided that my time at Permies was obviously finished, and that was completely beyond my control!

When I tried to get on this morning? With the "problem" post this time there was a link to the post with an issue and I fixed it, as far as I know. Anyway, my account works again. (I tore up the letter to Paul.)

As someone who's done admin work before, I know how tough it can be! But honestly? My problem wasn't with the stated issue in my post, it was that there was no way to see or fix the issue.

Thank you Admin person, if you enabled me to see and fix the problem. Thank you whoever potentially reviewed my reporting the issue and seeing that I had no way to fix the problem. Or, just thank you to the universe for seeing/fixing my problem! I really didn't want to go away, but it seemed I would have no choice.

Jennie, I'm not familiar with the situation you mention.

Do you have a link to the post?

I know they did some updates to the server recently, it seems to make buttons wonky while the updates happen.  Is it possible you were trying to do stuff during that update?

If it was last night? Yeah, that's possible.

The post was an old one I'd made about non-fiberglass insulation. I'd quoted someone's post and I think that was what it objected to. Dunno. I removed everything that might be a quote (the 'bot's stated problem) from my post.

Yep. And looking at the purple moosage now, I can see that what the problem was is that I didn't have all the links at the bottom of the page last night. If I had, I could have fixed it.

Are you looking on a phone, tablet, or a computer?

It sounds like the kind of funny thing that sometimes happens during a server update.  but I would like to look into it a little to make sure it wasn't something bigger.

Cool.  Thanks for that.

I had a look and I can't see why the bottom half of the message didn't load.

I'm going to put it down to a 'self-repairing' glitch and if it happens again, please let us know.

I'm thinking maybe you tried to moosage me, since I'd talked with about winning a book. I didn't get any moosage, and I don't see that it got sent out. I'm thinking maybe something glitched on the site at that time in a bunch of ways, making the whole PM not show up, and then not be able to send out the one you wrote. Every so often I can't post or reply, and then the permies server resets or something and everything works again. I'm thinking maybe this happened to you at that time?

I'm so glad you made a post about it and you stuck around! Hopefully we can figure out what caused the error and we can prevent it from happening again!

I'm wondering if, when you weren't able to access the site, you got a white page saying something about CRSF and permies being down or some such? I get those sometimes--sometimes they happen to the whole site, and sometimes it seems like it's just me.

I'm thinking this might have been what happened: You got in and had a must-read Almost-a-Post message. But, permies was glitching at the time, blanking out part of the message and making you unable to write pms or access the site.

As far as I know, we don't have a way to make Almost-a-Post messages  keep people out of the rest of the site. People can choose to fix the post or not. If they don't fix it, it stays hidden from the site,. If they fix it, we look and see if we can approve it. Either way, the person is able to continue to post.

Because this had never happened before, I  had no idea what to expect. I clicked on your name Nichole, but It didn’t do anything. I tried to then message Pearl and that’s  when I got the date and time stamp. It was confusing and upsetting! I don’t know if the message was sent to Pearl or not obviously.

But because I’ve  done site admin and tech. Support, I figured it was one of a few things. Someone had decided I was a jerk and reported a lot of things I’d posted, enough that it wasn’t negotiable or I had a mountain of bad juju to deal with. Or, there was just a glitch. Or the site had been hacked or ?

Glad it’s over!

No white pages or anything saying the site was down. Closest I got was the date and time stamp.

I had had the wood background or frame, much smaller than normal. The message was in the middle in a sort of window. Then that scrolled up and in large black type (times new Roman?) it printed the date and time. Black type on a white background. I hit the back arrow on my browser, I was still trying to find a way to do something. Went back to the “window” in the wood frame and I gave up and closed the window.

Squanch that. And squanch this tiny ad:
