Hello,
I know it's prob been asked a thousand times but would like your opinions please. We are trying to decide on hair sheep (Katahdin or KatahdinxDorper) or meat goats (KikoxBoer) , do not want wool sheep. They will be bred for meat and that is all,not pets or fiver,
milk ect. They will be taken to a nearby market and sold. Prices are fairly close between the two, slightly higher for goats.
I am wondering if anyone here has done either on a larger scale? Say 20-100+ acres? I am thinking of maybe doing some on our property and running them with or behind the
cattle (more grazing so prob sheep) or putting them on leased (father-in-laws)
land with his cattle but in the bush (browsing so goats).
I am leaning towards goats because of the higher price but am wondering if it's worth it since they are very hard to keep in on a larger scale. We have had Pygmy and Nigerian dwarfs as pets so keeping them in was not a problem at all.
Do goats grow slower than the hair sheep? Which will produce more twins?
Fencing is my main concern so if anyone can let me know how they do it or have done it on larger scale while rotating please let me know.
Thanks,
Tyler
