I wanted a
firewood rack that was mobile (no restacking ever), free/cheap, rot proof, covered, and easy to build. So here's what I came up with!
Get ahold of some free or cheap used poly drums and give them a second life. Be mindful of what your drum used to contain. You'll generally pay for a cleaned drum, but if you can get them free and dirty try to make sure it's something you can clean to at least some safe degree.
To build, I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in the corner of each cutout, then zipped the rectangle out with my reciprocating saw. Add a few drain holes to the bottom as well. That's it! I can make one in about 5 minutes if I don't have to clean the drum much.
To move, hitch up your two wheeler (homestead back-saver) and strap the top.
