Welcome, Jon.
what's it planted in, and what are your plans for it? If it were a tree in the ground or a real big pot that has a chance of fruiting out, I would prune off one or two of the bifurcated stems, depending on how big I want it to get, and what the stems look like farther up in terms of being healthy. You don't want to have a bushy mess where there isn't any airflow (bugs, diseases, etc). From the spikes I'm assuming the plant is pretty big?
I'm by no means a master of anything, but a few years ago I bought some citrus tree "whips" to put in large pots in my
yard, and the guy who sold them to me told me to plant them and top them (cut off the top of the single stem, which really looked like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree, and I felt like a murderer doing it). But that forced out branches from the sides, and I did get fruit-- not bushels, but some, not bad for young
trees. These trees are maybe 4 or 5 feet tall.
