Tattler and metal lids? glass lids?

Somewhere in a far away galaxy....someone spoke of their experiment.  They reused a metal canning lid (someone else mentioned boiling them in water with baking soda to reuse them), used a metal canning lid with a Tattler rubber ring, and used a glass lid with a Tattler rubber ring.  They all sealed and 3 weeks later, she reports they are holding the seal.  

Has anyone here tried reusing the metal lids with a Tattler rubber ring/gasket?  What are you thoughts on safety?

Edit:  I checked, and the Tattler gaskets will fit with the regular metal rings.  This is not so for the glass lids; they require the older zinc bowtie rings.

I have reused regular lids.  I examine them carefully.   Of course, I check to see if they have sealed.  I have used tatler lids.  I have not combined the two.  But I dont see why it couldn't be done.
