Where are you growing yours, all sorts of conflicting data online. I personally know of two trees, one being grown in Tampa and never covered and another New Port Richey both 9Bs and Ill be in 9A but still considering it.
Ive talked with someone in Arizona that supposedly has one in his yard a couple of years in 7B. I dont know about that but Id like to hear from people that have them in the ground and their location
I live just south of Tampa, zone 9B. Have tamarind tree for 5 years. Fruiting and thriving. It has never being touched by the frost. Couple years ago jack fruit tree was killed to the ground by the frost, tamarind survived without any damage at all.
Hope it helps.
I live in 8B in central TX and noticed the other day that a local nursery was selling Carob and Tamarind trees. That seemed really optimistic to me so I checked up on them. Established carob are hardy to 20 F which means it would be fine here in most years but would need help while young and in bad years. Tamarind is on supposed to go to 25 F which means it would have to be moved into a greenhouse or grown in ground inside one here. People work hard in TX to push the envelope, especially around Houston.
Arch enemy? I mean, I don't like you, but I don't think you qualify as "arch enemy". Here, try this tiny ad:
