Not a book in the traditional sense, but the online version of  WWF's Living Planet Report 2020:

I have only read a short summary (in German) up to now, with shocking numbers of an overall decrease in wildlife of 2/3, but also with outlooks on possibilities of "bending the curve" and still feed an increasing population.
