My husband and I are about to purchase some property in penobscot county, maine. Anyone know anything about building codes there? We currently reside in newton county, arkansas, where there are no codes, so we're a little spoiled

Just about every town in Maine has some kind of building code. From what I know the smaller the town the more for giving they are.
You should be able to go to the town and get a copy of their codes that they follow.
Hope this helps

I think Maine.gov has a lot of the info you desire.

I'll say this, as a transplant here in Maine, getting to know the neighbors will do you more good than going to the town office for things. Being a good, friendly neighbor will gain you a lot leeway with your "projects". Also unless it's a MAJOR build, most people just don't care what you do. Having a good hedge where people can't see what you're doing is a good idea, just don't be a shut-in. In my experience Mainers are "live and let live" folks. They tend to keep quietly to themselves but are genuinely nice people and willing to help if you need it. I move here from Rhode Island a few years ago and have been so happy that people here just get along without a lot of Drama.

What made you choose Maine?

bulk.resource.org/codes.gov/

has the codes for Maine about halfway down the page, or you can control+F and type Maine

Fair enough. Thanks Paul. I like the idea of that new feature. It is helpful to be able to re-read things to make sure that the sentiment was the one that was wished to put out there. Sometimes things get misunderstood and being able to clarify without having to "recall from memory" what the original post was after it was deleted would be a huge benefit.

Are you okay? You look a little big. Maybe this tiny ad will help:
