I've got a lot of cherry trees on this property that I'd like to put to good use.

That's what I thought but just wanted to be sure. I also have a lot of hazelnut trees that I want to use for raised beds too.

Pines are definitely a no-no, right?

Cherry is a valuable wood for cabinetry and other fine woodworking, so if the trees are large, you may be able to find a buyer for the trunks. It would be a shame to make hugelkultur of it if it is large and in good condition.
