listening to those really inspiring high school students who are thinking about their impact on the world and interested in SKIP, I thought it would be great to have an option for the best part of college--hanging out with people at the lunch table. (OK, I realize as I type that that for many people it was the parties, but I had a sheltered existence and didn't get invited to them...so the lunch table was where I learned a lot of new things that I wouldn't have learned in class, plus getting social interaction and nourishment.) I'm sure most of the kids doing SKIP already have plenty of places ot hang out, but it would be a great thing to be able ot hang out with other SKIPpers.
Some potential risks:
--zoombombing
--someone saying there should be a grownup making sure that people are behaving
--harrassment
These things happen in colleges already, and they generally can deal with them by having Resident Assistants or whatever RA actually stands for, and so on. For "SKIP alternative college", since the budget is 0, it would have to be self-organizing.
For virtual gatherings, maybe crowdfunding for an RA on call by videoconfererence.
If local groups were to form in neighborhoods then maybe some kind of neighborhood fundraiser could offset the cost of paying to have some kind of an RA at the table or nearby.
Just brainstorming here.
My biggest regret about college is that I didn't go for pizza more times when my roommate invited me some nights.
