My 8 month old boar is lying down while feeding. This behaviour started 3 days back. He is normal otherwise. No fever or symptoms of any other disease.

Is this a normal behaviour or is something wrong. Am new to pig rearing.

Hi Biju;
Some piggy's are just lazy.  Once he found out he could eat while laying down he figured, why not!

I could be wrong and you should keep an extra check on him to make sure he is eating, drinking and of course pooping.

I would not be overly concerned.
Many of my pigs will lay on their side and roll their head into the feeder... Lazy piggy's...

Our pigs seem to reach a new level of laziness around 200 lbs or so.  They have to stand to reach the feed in the feeder, but otherwise sleep for most of the day.

An update on my pig's health. He was too fat, we were feeding him chicken slaughter waste. I stopped giving that and he slimmed down and is now lean and active.

I was just going to ask whether your boar is too fat. :D

Also, having been to Kerala...it's HOT down there. So, I would lie down if I was a boar.

Hopefully, you're doing great with your pig rearing.
