Not sure if this observation helps anyone, but the bugs are thick in SD right now. While I was watering the garden tonight my son dropped a flashlight in the 5 gallon bucket of water I was using. Hundreds of the little boogers immediately dove towards the light and were caught in the water. It worked better than a bug zapper and any beneficials could be scooped out I imagine.
We are considering installing some night lighting in the aquaponics tanks to help with feeding the fish. I wonder if anyone has any experience with that they would like to share? Now if only yellow flies and horse flies were out at night.
We used to do this on our pond with a light right above the water the fish were waiting right below.
Indeed a pond with a light right under the water might make the fish fatter.
I imagine a few drops of detergent in the water would help more of them drown with surface tension, and a few mosquito bits to stop them from populating....
