I'll have to see if i can find one of her papers online. I found the images quite powerful, with her standing straight and tall giving the lecture and showing 'before' photos of living with a reclining wheelchair as the MS progressed. She is a physician / scientist and managed to reverse many of the effects of her MS, which makes a moving, and quite credible story.

I think the quick summary would be that diet may be implicated in MS and other neurological disorders (as well as the 'lifestyle' diseases we usually think of like heart disease and diabetes)

She recommends a diet based on a daily ration of three cups leafy greens (ie a plateful), three cups of veggies high in sulfur (ie like the cabbage family), three cups of bright colour (antioxidants, berries and brightly coloured vegetables), and grass-fed meat or wild fish (high in omega-3's), with organ meat once a week.

There's a lot of paleo-diet talk out there, she has some pretty specific ideas based on her own experience and her examination of the current literature.

I still recommend a watch, it's not that long...
cheers

Kari
Thanks for sharing this information. I am so impressed with her recovery from the debilitation.
I am reading more of her info and looking at getting her videos or book.
I believe there is great merit to her ideas and I am adopting them into my life.
In the past I have 'come back' from various autoimmune disorders (by eating vegetarian and giving up coffee) which I believe to be related to a systemic inflammatory process in the body.
And it is known that dairy and grain contribute to inflammation..along with chemicals and toxins, ect.
Sadly,I always allow more carbohydrates and dairy back in my diet and then symptoms return.
If she can let go of previous dietary practices so can I.
Thanks again.
Kate

I'm always extremely skeptical of people that promote 'miracle' cures for anything, but I find her really convincing and if her methods don't work for someone who tries them there's really no harm done. It's not like she's promoting a dangerous invasive surgery or something...just eating lots of fresh vegetables and fruits. And of course it's something that could be tried without dropping whatever conventional treatment regime is being undertaken.

It's funny, I first convinced myself that a more natural diet for my farm animals would give me healthier stock and more nutritious meats...getting everything back on grass and browsing like they evolved for. It took waaay too long to get the 'aha' moment and start looking at my diet with the same eyes..but i'm not very bright sometimes...

good luck!

I don't think she's promoting a "'miracle' cure". It seems based on science and logic.

My oldest friend was diagnosed at 20 with MS, now at 35, she's bedridden - can't even feed herself. About 3mo. ago I finally got up the nerve to broach the subject of natural healing again. She's agreeable. Now to get her mom and brother on board. Luckily, 2 mo. after I first started broaching the subject of healing via food to her mom (the mom's a drinker and I assume she's dismissive of me due to knowing me since I was 5), another friend sent the mom this video. She just about knocked me down in excitement over the video she'd seen with 'some' dr who had MS. I looked her straight in the face and said, "I told you about Dr. Terry Wahls, 2mo.s ago. You were dismissive. I'm glad you've seen the video. I've got some information on how to start healing your daughter."

I've been unable to get out to their house for a month so nothing has happened since that discussion, but I'll be out there in 2 days.

Yes thanks, and this is no more miracle than following our nature and what we were made to eat!
We usually get what we are looking for only as a reward, during holidays or after retiring ! If we are lucky enough.
Humans are made for tending nature and live in it.
We get some comfort and goods, just hoping to let the discomfort of the making and of the pollution to other people!

I think the Wahls diet is quite different from simply following our nature and what we're meant to eat, it is a therapeutic diet which will take some willpower to adhere to. Most people do not naturally eat the very large amount of vegetables Wahls recommends. I think it's an exciting and amazing discovery.

I just meant there is no miracle, and who knows "what we are meant to eat", yes that might be excessive!
We might be meant to eat what is mainly available, which varies on earth.
We can also be meant to eat things that are chemically transformed in certain ways and not others.
(I meant that sprouting and fermenting seem to be good transformations, and hydrogenating fat seems not to be)

And yes I also think it needs some willpower...
It is therapeutic ...which means most people have gone to a disease bringing diet!

This post has helped me to see that I used to eat more greens (but when you have a very dry summer...)!
I started yesterday to go back to more leaves, including a lot of wild ones.
The result is incredible with the belly comfort!
(it works for me only with a real starch-free diet)
And I was not hungry for long after eating just the raw part.

I made a green juice + a 1 carrot juice, that I mixed with avocado, chia flour, olive oil, homemade mayonnaise, some herb spices.
In the resulting green sauce, I sliced a tomato.
That was not much, but I had to wait for the next meal to be able to eat the soup!
I made a GAPS style soup with chicken and peas, that included the green and carrot fiber!

So, I think it enables to eat more veggies. The best part is raw, the fibrous part is cooked.
I was very calm, no urge to eat, very flat belly.
Of course, I have to go up with the quantity, and care about the colors.
