We are operating a small farm in Northern California. We raise pigs farrow to finish. We rotate them through the forest, finishing them on acorns and fermented corn. We have the hogs butchered and made into bacon, hams, sausages and fresh cuts that we
sell at 18 farmers markets all within 2 hours of our farmstead. We butchered 180 pigs last year and crossed over $100k in sales.
I have 16 Nigerian dwarf does that have just had babies. I am hand milking a few of them right now. I am looking for someone to come in and start milking twice or three times a day. The
milk would be made into cheese and then distributed between our existing customers.
I have 3/4 of an acre that has been a KNF pig pen for the last four years. I have had over 5000 yards of
wood chips from our
local area dumped and 22 tons of
biochar that have been added to pens that we have farrowed in. This has composted and turned into a 4 foot thick biomass that is hard to describe. We are moving the last sows off this week to our new location. This will become our garden and orchard. I am looking for someone to come in and grow a variety of vegetables and flowers that will be sold at our weekly markets.
The hardest thing for me so far in my life has been to ask for help. I have shared a little of what we do on here in the past. It is hard to do it and document it at the same time. I feel I am doing something special and I am looking for some folks that want to add to it. I started doing this because I was trying to eat the best food I could and I could not afford it. My decision was to start start producing the best the world has to offer. I am doing that and I am trying to produce more than I can on my own now. Pay is negotiable with
experience, with room and board included. We have a 125 year old house in a historic mining town. We eat very well and have some of the oldest vineyards in California a few miles from the farm.
This is the first feeler I am putting out. Send me a message if you are interested. Thank you, Jeff.
