I've got a pint of fresh (pitted) dates to use up. I haven't really eaten them before except little peices in my granola.

Any ideas that aren't sweet baked goods? I welcome savory ideas too!

Dates are absolutely amazing wrapped in a bacon slice and an almond as the filling. A few minutes in the oven and ready!

They are great sides for lunches. Instead of throwing in an apple, take a bag of dates. They're also emergency sweets when you don't have food at work, but you're hungry and don't want to raid the vending machine.

they are real yum fermented with lacto-ferment drink and then added to yogurt, or you can add the fermented paste into some butter and spread on pancakes, a hit with the kids.
You can mix one part dates with one part butter and cocoa to taste and process in a blender together and you have a yum date fudge, just chill in the fridge to the firmness you like to chew on. This is an even bigger hit with kids. You can roll the date/cocoa mix in coconuts, peanuts or whatever you like, seeds etc and make date truffles.
Adding dates into a curry is nice also, about two or three according to your tastes.
our favorite is a date blended with frozen banana, some fruit for flavor and a little liquid to make a yummy sweet but healthy smoothie.
Enjoy

Two of my favourite treats as a kid were a version of 'ants on a log': celery sticks filled with peanut butter with dates pressed into the top, and apple slices with dates and cheese. To make it more grown-up, I'd add walnuts or pecans
Dates are wonderful in winter salads. Say, feta, nuts, dates, bitter leaves like radicchio and maybe balsamic vinegar.
Moroccan tagine: especially good with mutton; plus plenty of preserved lemon, and loads of parsley at the end.
Couscous: olives, dates, onion, spices, garlic, kale, more preserved lemon and parsley...

step 1) Stuff them with soft goat cheese
step 2) Eat one
step 3) Just try to not eat them ALL (it's hard to stop)

My mother used to stuff them with cream cheese, set them out at Thanksgiving. It was the only time of the year we would have them. They never made it through the day.
