A Plug for Permies.com from N/Central Florida

Since I now write the main gardening column for the local multi-county publication of Natural Awakenings Magazine, I got a chance to plug my favorite Permaculture site this month. (Last paragraph of my article - this link takes you to where I embedded the online version on my own site):

I was half-afraid the extension office would cut the mention, since this site isn't necessarily "approved by the University of Florida" or the Master Gardening program, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the Extension reviewer left it in.

NA magazine apparently has a circulation of 40,000+... I hope at least a few readers start ripping up their lawns, watching Paul's vids and jumping into the forums. This article opportunity has been a great place for me to share the Permaculture message locally. I'm definitely getting some response since I started with these columns. Two weeks ago an event coordinator at the local Home Depot asked if I would come over and give a talk about organic gardening after reading one of my pieces. I said... "Sure... let's talk about long-term food production... what kind of edible perennials do you have in your garden section?"

Nice article, and nice plug.

With changing just two references in the article (the botanical garden and the plant sale) the same article could be run in the other Florida editions of NA.

My position as a Master Gardener (though constraining in that I have to tip-toe around corporations and gov't) has definitely been helpful. I've had plenty of influence already and I'm just in my first year with the program. Of course, it helps that I already wrote for a living. Jumping into doing a few magazine articles was easy. Most people that were writing for the MGs found it stressful.
