I have a problem. I've planted my peach
trees in acidic soil. My entire
yard has consistently tested at 5.3 on the pH scale. Some trees have made it but others have not survived. At the time of planting, I did not realize my acidic soil was below the acceptable range for peach trees. I have recently learned that overly acidic soil hinders nutrient absorption, which is probably why my trees aren't doing well.
How can I safely amend the soil to increase pH around my trees with lime? How much
should I apply? Should I mix lime into the soil several inches below my tree mulch bed areas? Some information points out that lime can damage the tree
roots of young, freshly established trees or cause the pH to increase above the optimal range for fruit trees. Some information points out that applying lime on top of the soil is ineffective because it only changes the pH within the first couple inches of topsoil.
I need help. Any recommendations for a safe and quick method to increase the pH around my peach trees?
