Hello everybody,
I'm quite new in this
permaculture thing but obviously I find amazing.
For quite some time now I've been thinking how could one produce oil while incorporating
permaculture designs/concepts. Now with this
energy crisis it obvious (if it wasn't before) the need for at least some energy auto-sufficiency from non-petroleum producing countries, and vegetable oil will surely play a huge part in this.
So I was thinking of designing a guild aimed at producing oil. Given my region (Azores, Middle of the Atlantic, sort of tropical and maritime climate), in theory, the following oil producing plants are available:
- Camellia japonica;
- pumpkin
- sunflower (low yields expected because of climate)
- soybean
- safflower
To these I would be adding mulchers and accumulators like yarrow, chickweed and
nettles.
Could you please give me some feedback and tips on how to go about the desing, or am I helpless in trying to achieve this? Thank you very much for your attention.
