One place i was looking at purchasing these from may not ship until 5/1. Will that be too late to plant Bare Root Grape Vines? Typically i read early spring or late fall...
How many vines will be going in the ground and how might you be able to protect them? What I've found is the new bare-root seedlings can go into a bit of shock while putting them in the ground, and some extra water and extra shade right after planting will help them move along. If you can get shade from the hotter noon-time sun, and they have ample water, they will do fine. The warmer the weather the more shade. I've found that transplants need at least a week of sun protection, which diminishes over time. Just watch for wilting. More or less shade will be indicated by the level of wilting.
They will be fine. Grapes are really tough. It seems a little late to me, but in our climate the grapes are growing by may, and that makes them a little more fragile to handle and ship. Ideally youd want to dig them up before the buds break, but i suppose depending on where the nursery is, that might still be the case. Anyway, stick them in the ground when you get them, keep them watered, and they should be off and growing in no time.
