How should we determine zones on a property with multiple structures? Our land covers 2 hectares and will have a main home, a workshop, guest bungalows, an eco lodge with several rooms and a small restaurant / kitchen / lounge building. The distance between the home and restaurant is about a 5 minute walk with workshop and lodge in between. We would be frequenting both buildings multiple times a day. Which is considered zone 1? In addition, the driveway in snakes through a large area of the property before reaching the house. While we already know where the structures will be built, I'm trying to figure out zoning to help decide what we should be planting where. Would you just call most of it zone 2?

To me, Zone 1 is the area right outside your home where you spend most of your time outside.

Based on what you said about the home and the restaurant, I feel you have two Zone 1s.  A residential Zone 1 and a business Zone 1.

How often will you be using the workshop and the lodge?

Zone 2 is the area in your yard that you visit on a daily basis.   If you have to use the workshop and the lodge every day then they are in Zone 2.

If the workshop is a weekend affair then it might be zone 3 unless you have daily classes then it is Zone 2.  If you hire teachers who use the space more than you that might be Zone 3 even if the classes are daily.

If you will have guests at the lodge on a daily basis and you will be there cleaning every day then that would be Zone 2. If you have a cleaning crew that does all the cleaning then the lodge might be considered Zone 3.

I would call the driveway Zone 4 as that is where you most likely will have your wild land (Zone 5) though it will be used or managed more than the wild land surrounding the drive unless you plan to have gardens that you will be tending on a daily basis.

One fact to keep in mind is that you are dealing with two separate entities where one is your home and the other is a business.

I assume that a business entity can have zones though I am not familiar with Business Zones.
