What’s eating my blackberry plant leaves?

I planted it last year. This year it’s got very few berries on it since the season just started. However, I noticed almost all the leaves have hole on them. What’s eating it? What can I do to stop it? Also, what else can be done to grow the plant better. It seems to be growing little slower. Is it a must to make the soil acidic?

See attached.

Thanks!

That could be a lot of different insects.

Grasshoppers are the first one I thought of.

Mr Google said, "Common pests include soil-borne bugs like strawberry weevils and grubs, as well as cane borers, stink bugs, spider mites and aphids.

You might try using a soap spray:

Choose a clean spray bottle or sprayer for your mixture.

Mix 1 tablespoon of soap per quart of water, or 4 to 5 tablespoons of soap per gallon of water.

Mix together thoroughly and use immediately.
