Old school Alaskan here

 Hello all.
Found this site n it looked like it had interesting stuff,  here I am. My beautiful wife n me started out 40 some years ago. Built a house, got house burned in forest fire. Built another house. And a remote log cabin along the way. Just starting on our new retirement home.
     We homeschooled our kids n raised all forms of livestock. Ended up with rabbits as a staple. I'm into the bush. We staked 20 acres n built a log cabin. And going out there for a month or 2 at a time isn't enough. Moose season,  hopefully I'll be sitting on the front porch doing moose calls.
      Really into winter n going out on snogos. Hunt trap fish. Raise a big garden, do lots of berries in the garden too. And enjoy going out foraging,  got a couple pounds of chaga I need to get processed into tea n tinctures. Beautiful wife would love the bear hide in the bottom of the freezer tanned up.
 We also help raise our grandson so I have a 5 year old fishing partner.
Anyhows just wanted to say hey,  try n learn something while leaving a few good pointers.

Welcome Alak! Sounds like you’ve been doing just fine.

As a youngster I daydreamed of living in Alaska.  I never made it. As a retiree, I ended up living in Hawaii without regrets. But I really enjoy visiting Alaska. But I don’t think I could deal with your long winters anymore.

I suppose you are chuck full of experience and wisdom. I’d enjoy hearing you share some of that here. I’m all ears!
