Hello all. Near 20 years ago we had the opportunity to stake 20 acres of remote recreation cabin land. Somehow we managed to never give up n ended up with this.
We fly out in the summer months in a small bush plane on floats,  185 Cessna. Then its a 2 mile walk north. No neighbors. Cell service is iffy. Just right for me anyhows.
I did freight out 3 atvs to help out around the place.
In the winter, 7 months or so. We can use snogos. I spent many hours spread out over 6-8 years getting the supplies freighted out. But in my world slowly cruising along on my snogo with another load of freight and having the northern lights dancing above. Stop in an open area of the tundra n turn the machine off. Lay back on my emergency ditty bag n take a sip of whiskey.  The 20 below air feels good as I breathe it in. I say Thank You to the Good Lord for this opportunity. Dream about how our family will have a cabin in nowhere Alaska to get to. Where the wildlife is still wild n all you got is yourself n what you have.
Our kids will be bringing there families out there. And get to enjoy the thrill and sense of accomplishment when calling in a huge bull moose. I cherish the time I called in our son's first moose,  58" no typical. And watching as they learn to take the reigns.
For me, getting dropped off in the bush.  Just me n the world around me. And it's still wild. Just me n the world.  I watch the little plane lift. And my connection to the rest of the world just left too. I look north to check out where to walk on the muskkeg,  Mt Denali is clear. As are the rest of the Alaskan range along with the Talkeetnas to the East. I'm at piece. Getting the 2 miles north is easy enough as I'm feeling great. And finding that the bears didn't break in to the cabin is better. Nothing left to do but remove the bear boards n open up the cabin. Feels like home.  Grab a chair n sit down on the deck,  shot of whiskey.
Nothing left to do except get the 800 pounds of freight down at the lake to the cabin. I use our coleman canoe as a freight sled along with its canoe duties.
We did get a couple hundred TnG pine boards freighted out this last spring. Along with a mini freezer,  new 2500w generator, 100 gallons of gasoline n such. I built the generator shed n insulated it. After a bunch of years I will finally have enough stuff to build it into a duel purpose walk in cooler. I got an air conditioner out there a couple years ago. Planning on mounting it on the insulated generator shed. As my refrigeration unit. The freezer will have a control that will allow it to run at 38 degrees and use little energy. With refrigeration and freezing capabilities that will be great. Prior when a moose is harvested the clock is ticking and we have to depend on a plane being able to get in.
I have a sandpoint well started n got too difficult. Will finish with an electric jack hammer. Now we use a MSR water purifying pump n get water from the pond out front.
Nice to not have to carry water in. Nicer when you can get it from the kitchen faucet.
Anyhows a bit about me n my world,  most blessed man in the world eh

I'm planning a trip trip out to our cabin. First time since the snow left. For me , the best part about being out there is that it's never been touched. As in no humans have ever walked in the woods around me. At least not in a long time. And the animals have probably never seen a human enough to have an encounter.
We have a wolf den near. And have be blessed to be able to hear them. One night after I got back to the cabin. My beautiful wife n me headed upstairs to go to bed. She asks me what's that noise ? The wolves were taking down a moose 100 yards out from the cabin.
Mother Nature at work. Or hearing a couple lynx scrap it up. 50 swans taking off over my head. I'm into learning about all the plants in the area n how to use them for food n medicine. Tools n such. But the trees are the real draw for me. I look at every one
Taking our kids out hunting or trapping. Harvesting an animal to feed our family is done respectfully. And having steroid n hormone free protein is best. Our diet consists of wild game n seafood,  salmon , halibut n such.
Being one on one with our son or daughter n watching them grow,  become more independent by knowing how to take care of themselfs n their family. Hunting n fishing is great  but you need to be able to do much more. Your in a world where all you got is what you have. There is no help. Just learning to live under that umbrella is a lesson in itself. A big lesson. That for most,  including me will always carry a bit of caution. And entrique that draws me
But when you learn to just be part of the world around you. Forget about the world a float plane n days away. Sit in the woods,  open your ears n look through the forest,  not at it. Make it one,  then drop in for a visit. Yeah it's a special feeling
