I'm going on vacation a lot in the next month.  I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do.

Normally, I burn a barrel of biochar. Then I put it out between panels of plywood and drive over it. The first week I take half off.  Then I drench it in my inoculant once a day for two weeks.

Since I won't be here to do anything for these weeks, I'm not going to burn a barrel this week.  I still have the crushed char that I would normally take out.  I think I"m going to take it out and drench it, but I'll only be able to do it once during the week, only on the first day.  That seems better than just leaving it with no inoculation.  I think I'll still try to get 14 days of inoculation out of it eventually, but there will be several days of gaps in between.

My main concern is that the fluid inoculant will go anaerobic if it just sits there for a week or two.  I guess just by pouring it into the char and out it will make it more aerobic when I return.  Any suggestions or experience with leaving your biochar operation for a week, two, or more?

Thanks,
John S

That's an interesting idea, Douglas.   I use those when I make compost tea, so I wouldn't have to buy another one.

I don't think that I'm likely to run it continuously for my 10-day vacation, but running it for an hour when I return makes sense. Thanks for the good idea.
