Well hello there,

I'm a humie living in New Brunswick, Canada. That's the other side of Maine, for those in the US.

I love living close to the ocean (close being a 30+ minute drive away), and hope to one day be considered a local Maritimer. I moved here from Ontario...I don't think it would have been possible to own property in my lifetime if I had chosen to stay in Ontario, plus that would be pretty boring to never leave what I consider a very mediocre province.

I am closing on a house with 5 acres on July 25th *knock on wood*. This is a huge step that I planned for the last 2 years so that I could live more surrounded by what I love: nature. I know, it's cliche, but it is what it is.

My hobbies includes mushroom & plant identification, hiking, cooking really yummy food, listening to audiobooks, jigsaw puzzles, board games. I'm sure I could go on, but we don't have all day.

My vision for the property I'm about to buy is....likely a bit naive. My priority is to do things slowly (as permaculture teaches us) and learn what nature is doing on the site. I'd like to catalog the current species, and start the process of removing any foreigners, especially invasive plants. Biological conservation is something I'm passionate about, and I quite like Tallamy's book on Home Grown National Park. Once I get the foreign plants out (or composting), I'll start planting my food forest. I suppose I'm lucky in that I have a nice field to start with.

And I'll take it from there! I hope to learn from everyone who is here/was here, and hopefully I can get closer and closer to my vision of making a home.

Welcome, sounds like you are on the cusp of a big adventure. I hope your closing involves zero drama! Look forward to seeing what you do with it.

"How many licks ..." - I think all of this dog's research starts with these words. Tasty tiny ad:
