I'm new to this territory, but I've always had a fondness for self sufficiency and being off the grid. I've delved into hydroponics, designed thermo-mechanical systems as a graduate engineer, and really love what I'm finding so far on this site. It seems to be filled with good people and good spirit. I'm looking forward to finding more and more out about this place and what it holds (especially on the food front, I really need to learn how to preserve things).

I'm a bit west of chicago. New here myself. And finding it delightful though a bit slow sometimes - I like a bunch of new threads and lots of discussions if I have a choice. (my intro is a few below yours).

Ah, well sorry I didn't look down!! I like conversations too, but I'm fine with things being slow. At least with a site like this you know people's heart's are in the right place and you're going to get good advice.

Hi Adam! You should find lots of info on preserving foods here. My favorite method so far is dehydrating but I recently got into canning with some help from my aunt and am hooked on it.
