I know there are about a half-dozen different ways of establishing a hedgerow, but does anyone here have any experience creating hedges out of hazel or hawthorn coppice as depicted in the BBC series Tales From The Green Valley?

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to grow their own hedgerow plants from scratch, then coppiced them, and then used the shoots to weave a hedge in the wintertime. How many years of new growth would it take before the hedgelaying could begin? And how close-together should the coppiced trees be spaced?
