Happy to see there are other permies opting out of all the BS and becoming truly awake. We've opted out, lost friends, gave up our home and are now living on shared land trying to start from scratch. We are strangers in a strange land in The Middle of Nowhere, SC. We'd like to start building an agorist-style freedom cell and I know once upon a time someone wrote a handbook with templates about how to get started with a barter system, voluntary parallel economy.
I'm not looking for philosophies or social groups, plenty of that! I want templates to build on.
Any leads?

Is it a LETS scheme you're thinking of? Local Economy Trading Scheme - where time and goods can be traded, usually in a local area. You could try wikipedia: Local exchange trading system for some pointers.

Wow this is not what I was thinking of, but very similar principles. This looks like it will be a fruitful rabbit hole. Thanks very much!

Hi Chris,
I was part of a local community that did some of this in Northern Arizona. As a way of utilizing another form of commerce/currency we took part in something we called a "gifting circle". My good friend who hosted the gifting circles, learned it from a book called "Ubuntu". Ubuntu is a form of commerce that is gift-based.
Now, personally I perceive the potential flaws with gift-based currency immediately. However, with a community of homogeneous spirit, that is high-morality and high-trust, it is possible. And like most things surrounding permaculture and intentional community, this will only work at a small-community level, and not at a large governmental level. Though, it's been tried many times on large scale, it hasn't proven itself to function properly as a form of government.
