Hi all;
In my ongoing experiments for alternative batch box roofs.
I purchased a 12x24"x2 " fire brick tile for $75 and then paid $90 to have it shipped!
I can safely say this "tile" will not warp!  Could it crack?    Oh yes, it could!
But to aid further research in rocket science, I am willing to find out how well this brick performs.
I am also experimenting with an uninsulated heavy-duty cast iron griddle as a new roof on my 7" shop dragon.
Now I have a heavy fire brick insulated by super wool on the 6" studio dragon.
A fellow Rocket scientist in the Canadian islands is experimenting with using a kiln shelf as a roof on his rmh.
By spring we should have some solid answers about roof options.

My barrel is set on super wool with a clay mortar to hold it in place.
Super wool covers the fire brick tile.
For test flight purposes, I have fire bricks sitting directly on top of the super wool.
After all, it is 51F and raining today! We are going for a test flight as soon as the roof is on!
Later I will modify the steel plate cover I was using before, to sit over the Morgan and rest on the clay brick walls.
Bricks will then sit on the steel plate.

The downside to using the firebrick tile is having to bring the bricks up to full temp before I am getting a good clean burn.
The upside is its durability.
The downside to using uninsulated cast iron is it is shedding heat as fast as it can, also affecting final burn efficiency.
The upside is durability.

The Ceramic board is awesome at being highly efficient, but it really sucks for durability!

Hi All;
It has been a year now and the firebrick tile roof is as good as the day I installed it.
The RA330 stub was replaced with an RA253 MA stub to test its durability in an extreme burning batchbox.
I am happy to say that it has passed my testing!
In my opinion, RA253 MA is a suitable low-budget alternative to RA330.

It's interesting that the RA253 MA stub proved to be a durable and cost-effective alternative to the RA330 in your extreme burning batchbox test. Thanks for sharing your findings!
