Has anyone done a Permabed the way Loeks describes in his books The Permaculture Market Garden and The Edible Ecoystem Solution?

I think this may be what I need to do in order to help get a food forest started. Words of advice (or warning) from anyone who has experience with these is most welcome!

Oh. There's a name for that. Who knew?

The above video explains solarizing the garden area. This presentation shows the beds being set up.

I set mine up similarly do to the need for drainage in the springtime. I'll be back in a bit with more information.

In this portion of the garden, I could not plant anything for a month after last frost. While I do have near 9 months of growing weather, there are some things that do better planted at last frost. Like english peas.

This is what I was struggling with.

I set these up last year just in time to throw a cover crop down for the winter. As you can see below, my beds were set up with flat tops and squared off edges. I have clay soil, and while after a full year, there is some rounding to the edges, they basically stayed in shape.

I like the set up. I have tilled the center of a few beds, leaving the edges intact. It worked. I'd prefer one of those fancy a garden forks... It's on my wish list.
