I hope you know that your dislike of using "u" for you is really a personal thing. I have know many who speak many languages and learning this shortcut is not particularly difficult for anyone i have found.

There are better ways to deal with it, either highlight them all or you can make automatic substitutions.

Yo international crowd....do you not know the meaning of "u"?

I believe that the overall idea is to keep people from "texting" in their posts.

Anybody can read prose. Fewer can read 'txt'.

Texting renders Google search nearly useless. Many members have found this site as the result of a Google search.
Most of those people would not be here if Google had not found those keywords.

Other than it's an insult to the intelligence of any adult with a normal IQ?

That it appears that the person is too lazy to add two keystrokes to the letter to complete an actual word?

That I lose interest in anything they are trying to say immediately after spotting text speech in their narrative because I assume they are not credible if they cannot write the English language without damaging it~the same thing I do when they use no capitalization or punctuation?

Yes..that is why the letter "u" should probably not be used outside the cell phone communication skill set of a preteen and certainly has no place on a forum where adults are trying to communicate in a fluent manner.

my friend hates misspellings, i make her nuts

I personally dislike it intensely when someone uses the wrong there, they're. their or worse yet accept and except...oh man i got some signs i saw. It is a personal thing dear not wrong. OH OH OH, i loathe math mistakes. If "u" would like to stop reading, feel free.

The program i used for writing substitutes the word you for me, even facebook will underline the word if they dont like it...seems better solutions to me then the one used here

My peeve used to the double negatives . Now it is the word "et" substituted for "and". My fellow nurses do it because it is shorter and we write alot. Really , one letter makes a big difference and is that the only latin word you know - ARRRRGH!. Then when you go to NOOA Radio for your daily weather report , those computer generated voices actually say "et". Which means some meteorology intern somewhere actually types "et" and makes the computer say it outloud!
Maddening! If I am reading something with the word "et" I will mentally transpose it back to "and" . If I have to say it outloud I speak the word "and" outloud. Quiet Revolution. So there!

"et" is French for "and"... We stole it from Latin
