I have experimented with various non
shampoo systems: baking soda, no wash, dry powder, solid
shampoo etc. The reason being is that I want to get rid of the preservatives in my life. I have nothing against surfacants like sodium laureth sulfate. But preservatives aren't so harmless, especially the parabens.
Recently, I have been washing my hair with a quarter cup of dry Rhassoul clay, basically making mud cake on top of my head and massaging down the length of the hair and rinsing. I do this about once a week, and I have to say that it doesn't leave my hair sticky as when I use the baking soda. It washes out really clean and silky. An added benefit is it doesn't really add anything to my waste
water. No alkaline or additives go into the waste stream. I know of people who bath with it as well. I usually use it on my face as a mask, but there are so many other uses. With a little garlic oil added, I used it as a disinfectant mask on a nasty cat bite. It draws blood to the surface to aid healing.
