Good morning folks. I'm looking for more historic crops from the Gullah in Louisiana and Mississippi to honor my dad's ancestors next year as I have for my late grandma from a Cherokee reservation in Oklahoma.
I'm looking for ones before the 1800s in Louisiana and any of you have any crops in mind? One for me is the Yellow Creole corn and has been eaten by blacks and Creoles for a long time before 1950. Anybody has any Gullah ancestry on this site? I'd like to find out if there have been any crops and stuff grown in Louisiana before the 1800s including tobacco, melons, beans and stuff so I can restore my ancestors legacy. Please shoot back if you need me. Adios!

Blake, I have only the most surface knowledge of the Gullah, but my understanding points to the eastern part of the south rather than where you're talking about: Gullah

But have you checked out Gullah crops at EFN and at Truelove Seeds?

I've been over to these sites a little bit, but didn't stay long to see it all. Did the Gullah grow any tobacco and melons back then?
