Good morning,
I just found this site today. I admit that it is a bit overwhelming trying to figure out how to navigate it but I’ll cut to the chase. I’d like to integrate as many native species food sources as possible on my 1 acre wooded lot. I’m struggling with figuring out what to grow as I am completely surrounded by woods and there are no locations that get full sun for more than a couple of hours. I am in West TN and have ordered a PawPaw tree and a couple of Persimmon trees. Will fruit trees produce in a woodland environment? I remember harvesting blackberries as a child in blackberry thickets but those were near to open fields. Is it possible to create a food forest in a true forest? I did have a small area of trees cleared for a spot to put my tiny house cabin but sunlight is in short supply. I welcome advice on resources, planning, conferences, groups, ect that might be able to assist me.
All my blackberries, raspberries (gold, red and black varieties), low bush blueberries, strawberries, gooseberries, apple trees and cherry tree grow in a forest on my land. In fact, everything in the list came from other parts of the land and I replanted in close proximity to my cabin. However, all of the flora is growing in a forest and thrives quite well.
