For what it is worth, I don't think it really matters if you get two males, two females, or one of each. Once neutered, their behaviors will be moderated considerably. As of Monday this week I had one male and one female cat. They make an interesting pair. But I have had a lot of cats and each one is unique, more so than male or female alone can determine.
Wednesday this week, my oldest daughter adopted a female kitten. After getting used to a new home, the new kitten is terrorizing the male cat. Good. He needed to be put in his place!
Really, I would just pick them up and see which ones you personally like the best.

Interesting! I had a male dog for 17 years and he was always laid back and happy. We got a female dog and she’s got all the emotions of a teenage girl. Its seriously amazing and ridiculous at the same time. When we got our first cats, they were two brothers. Always happy, friendly and laid back. You could pet them anywhere, anyhow and for as long as you want. Pick them up, flip them over, whatever. Ive been around female cats before and if you touch them the wrong way or in the wrong spot or seemingly for too long you get clawed… of course I just figured it was females being moody but maybe it’s more of an individual personality thing.
I talked to the current owners and they said there are 4 females and 1 male to the litter, and the he male might already be called for. So it looks like we will likely be getting a couple sister cats.
